OPERATION RICE BOWL

Operation Rice Bowl is a Lenten program offered at St. Rene.  A calendar and a rice bowl will be distributed at all Masses on February 18 & 19 as well as on Ash Wednesday.  This is an all parish event and the rice bowl and calendar will only be distributed at the Masses, not in school or religious education class.  The calendar will inform you of those countries we will pray, learn, fast and give monetarily to in support of the programs offered by Catholic Relief Services.  Please give your coins and dollars throughout Lent.  Then on the weekend following Easter we will collect your offering and send a check to Catholic Relief Services to benefit those countries.  We can change a life one penny at a time.
LENT 2012 -- ADULT FAITH SHARING - Praying With Scripture
One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.                                                        -  Deuteronomy 8:3

To live by God's Word, we first must listen to it, not only with our ears but with our hearts as well.  We must pray with it, allowing it to sink into the depths of our being and form us as followers of Christ.
We will gather on three Thursday evenings this Lent from 7-9pm in the rectory basement to look at some ways we can pray with the Scriptures:
on March 15th we will use our imaginations to enter the biblical scene and bring it to life,
on March 22nd we will use the meditative practice of lectio divina to allow the Scripture passage to sink keep within us,
and on March 29th we will use journaling to get in touch with our deepest selves and hear God speak to our hearts.
All materials will be provided.  Please join us.
