Lord I love your house, this shrine where the brilliant, dazzling splendor, of your presence lives.
Psalm 26
Architectural Style
The design concept for our church is based on traditional form and details of Romanesque churches built in the 11th and 12th centuries. The design draws particularly from churches built in France during that time period. Rene Goupil may well have seen or visited churches much like it. St. Rene Church are reminiscent of the stone patterns, and details seen in romanesque churches. The arched windows, steep sloped roofs, off center bell tower and cruciform floor plan are also typical features.
StainedGlassWindows
The theological concepts were developed and the symbols are a universal language dating back to the earliest civilization. For example in each window clear crystal glass with varied textures were used to suggest the presence of God. This can be found in rays streaming out of the circular form in each window.
CREATION WINDOW
Captured to show the interrelation of all forms conceived as living in peace and harmony. This can be seen by looking at the hand of God, the bird, Adam and Eve and animals. Water flows from the hand of God and mingles with the tree and Adam and Eve.
NOAH WINDOW
This window depicts, his wife and people of many racial backgrounds. As Noah points to the rainbowand dove of peace with an olive brach, this suggest peace and hope. The arch represents the church, the route for our salvation.
NATIVITY WINDOW
This window shows, the Christ child among the women of the world and suggests that Jesus belongs to all races of mothers, who are dressed in their native costumes. Mary and Joseph are in the background looking on approvingly.
BAPTISM OF JESUS WINDOW
This window shows, a very human Jesus and John the Baptist who has his arm on Christ's shoulder. The Holy Spirit above Jesus indicates that he is truly the Savior. Also, seen in the background are multi-racial people.
PENTECOST WINDOW (an abstract symbolism)
The Holy Spirit is depicted flying down spiritually rather than graphically, its fluttering wings are intermingled with the dscending flames that also form part of the figures accepting the flames. The shapes, colors and lines mix and change as a part of the whole, as if spiritually becoming one.
SECOND COMING WINDOW (an abstract symbolism)
This window conveys the message of all of us who have accepted the inspiration of the Holy Spirit scending to God, to our own Pentecost. Here you can see heaven with its angels waiting for us. Crystal white glass suggest Jesus is coming to us as we are engulfed in the glow of His light. The gray and brown glass at the bottom represents the earth.
ROSE WINDOW
This window was designed with color and movement to describle the Resurrection. With this window the statement had to be strong and the colors vivid, to describe and suggust the dramatic moment of the Resurrection to each of us.
NOTE: The committee chose the idea of new birth, or new life, as the theme for our stained glass windows. All the windows invite you to search for their meaning to become involved...spiritually and intellectually with the truths they express. The name Rene in French suggests the idea of reborn.
