Every year, it is my responsibility as pastor to share with you a report on the state of Stewardship within St. Rene Parish. You will find enclosed with this letter a sheet that summarizes the financial revenues and expenses for the past fiscal year (7/01/07 - 6/30/08). You will also find a ‘brag sheet’ listing some of the highlights of volunteer stewardship of time and talent and outreach that also was a part of our parish life this past year. This Advent, our Parish will begin the celebration of its 50th Anniversary. We will remember
our many blessings and how those who have gone before us sacrificed so that we could offer the educational, liturgical and other caring services that we do within this community.God is truly present in you and in the good that you bring to others. I thank
you for your continuing commitment to our parish of St. Rene Goupil.

Over the past two years, due to the good reputation of our school, positive word of mouth and hard work on the part of our School Board and school families, we have experienced
a significant increase in our school population. This has required us to establish a second kindergarten classroom. Our school families shoulder about 80% of the cost that keeps our school alive as a means of passing on our faith to the future. The Archdiocese recognizes our good work and has continued to provide us with grant money assistance. The
remaining cost must be covered from our parish financial resources.

During times of economic stress we are all forced to come face to face with our financial limits and have to decide what is really important to us as individuals and families and
what is ‘extra’. I hope that your sense of belonging and supporting this parish of St. Rene
is at that central place for you. I am asking you to consider making a conscious and intentional examination of your weekly parish offering contribution and see if it truly
reflects your ability and willingness to support the work of our Church. For us to remain a living presence in this community and continue to provide the quality services that people expect and deserve your support is needed now more than ever. I ask you to remain consistent in your commitment to our parish by your attendance and contributions. Make
the time to pray and make a conscious budgeting choice regarding your Church giving. Look at the enclosed DECLARATION OF INTENT card, fill it out and bring it with you to
Mass on the weekend of October 25/26. I will invite everyone to step forward at the
Offertory of the Mass and place their completed card before our altar as a visible sign of their stewardship intent for this year. The direct deposit tool of ParishPay also remains available to you. You can contact the rectory for more information about this program
and receive help in enrolling. You can also go online to our Parish website www.strenegoupilchicago.com and use the ParishPay link to enroll yourself directly.

I thank you for the goodness that has been given and received. May we all be grateful

Our Parish Population: 1177 households, 3153 individuals, 67 newly registered families Average
weekly Mass attendance (Oct., 2007) 767

Sacramental Preparation Programs:
54 parents and godparents prepared for Baptism of child
1 candidate prepared for entry into the Catholic Church by 3 members of the Rite of Christian
Initiation od Adults (RCIA) team           
40 second graders prepared for First Communion and Reconciliation by 4 catechists

Sacraments.-Celebrated:

15 Marriages    180 Anointings of the Sick

Education and Faith Formation Programs:
249 Students (Pre K -8) taught by 16 teachers and 3 aides
95 CCD Students (grades K-8) taught by 12 volunteer catechists
15 students meet weekly for Children's Liturgy of the Word led by 1 catechist and 2 aides
8 people shared in Seasonal Bible Study with 1 leader also Bible Study with St. Benedict the
African West (our sharing parish)
6 Friends assisted in SPRED by 5 helpers
19 men and women experienced Christ Renews His Parish as initial teams

Liturgy Assistance:
20 Lectors    40 Altar Servers    52 Eucharistic Ministers
20 Ushers    15 Choir Members    32 Sacristans and Altar Cleaners

Parish Outreach:
560 Visits with Holy Communion to the home bound and 49 support visits to the grieving
by 6 Ministers of Care
727 visits and 430 other contacts made with food, clothing, rent and utilities assistance offered
by 7 members of St. Vincent de Paul Society
2 volunteered for Hope Is On The Way service to New Orleans with Deacon Sal & Beth Lema
7 involved with parish Peace & Justice Committee
233 children participated in sports (Football, Cheerleading, Softball, Baseball, Basketball & Volleyball) with 42 coaches
55 boys and girls were led by 27 leaders in Scouting programs
65 jr. high students involved in '6-7-8 Club' with 10 adult chaperones
4 Garden Committee members help beautify our grounds
