We lived on 64th St. between Nashville St. and Natchez St. I attended CCD classes and made my confirmation in St. Rene. My father, John Cologna, taught CCD and was a lay commentator at the Sunday Mass. I believe our priest's name was Father Ryan who frequently suppered at our home. My favoirte memory of St. Rene was the summer street dances for teens. St. Rene would hire local bands to play on Friday or Saturday nights in the parking lot of what is now the school. At the time the church sanctuary was located in the basement of the school. Coming from a pretty memorable group of graduates, no year was ever dull! And I learned some life long lessons, like the importance of long division and the reason that backpacks have TWO straps! It would be 6:00 PM, perfectly warm outside, the church bells would start to play, and the first pitch was thrown. Then it would be and hour and a half of pure excitement and fun! You would also go to all your friends games as well and it seemed like all your friends and your friend's parents were out having a great time almost every day of the week!
